The Federal Police has opened an investigation into new death threats against former Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who one day after winning the first round of the elections received an e-mail message assuring him that he would be shot at the headquarters of the Lula Institute in Sao Paulo.

This is not the first investigation carried out by the authorities during this turbulent campaign for death threats against Lula, who has seen supporters of the president, Jair Bolsonaro, such as businessman Luiz Henrique Crestani, publish on social networks a video in which he is seen practicing shooting on a target with his photograph.

This case is in the hands of the authorities as is that of another Bolsonaro businessman José Sabatini, who appeared in another video licking a gun and «ordering» Bolsonaro to strike a blow at the Senate and the Supreme Court after winning the elections.

Already in 2021 this same person was investigated for threats to Lula, who is scheduled as a last act before Sunday’s elections to lead a convoy through the streets of Sao Paulo and go to Rio de Janeiro this Friday for a final televised debate with Bolsonaro.

As Sunday’s appointment approaches, fears are growing of post-election violence, after those recorded in recent days, with Bolsonaro’s followers bursting religious celebrations because they allegedly called for a vote for Lula, or the most recent one of former congressman Roberto Jefferson receiving at his home the Police with gunshots when he was about to be arrested for skipping the conditions of his house arrest.
