71 percent of Peruvians want the closure of Congress and the resignation of President Boluarte

71 percent of the Peruvian population wants the closure of the Congress of the Republic and the resignation of President Dina Boluarte, according to the latest Datum poll published this Sunday in the newspaper ‘Peru21’.

The study points out that 76 percent of the population disapproves of the work being developed by President Dina Boluarte, while 16 percent approves of it.

Regarding the popularity of the president of the Congress Board of Directors, José Williams, the survey shows that 69 percent disapprove of his work.

In addition, 37 percent of the population feels annoyed with the protests against Boluarte; 23 percent, frustrated, threatened or affected; 6 percent, hopeful, and 4 percent indifferent or optimistic.

Regarding possible changes in the Political Constitution, 38 percent think that some partial changes should be made, 29 percent would like a totally new text, 14 percent think that most of the Magna Carta should be changed, while 12 percent consider that the current Constitution should be maintained and 7 percent do not know. Regarding the option of a constituent assembly, 56 percent are in favor, 34 percent against and 10 percent do not know.

According to Datum, 17 percent of the population knows that the function of a Constituent Assembly serves to change the Constitution or some articles of the text. Twelve percent think it serves to change the laws or give new laws, 10 percent believe it is a place for dialogue to seek the benefit of the country, while 6 percent think it is a place where the people can be listened to or the country’s problems can be solved.

Four percent believe that it serves to elect new governors or authorities and 2 percent, to strengthen democracy or to impose a leftist ideology.

The study is based on 1,204 interviews and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.8 percentage points.
