White House security officials have confirmed that the United States is working to recover the wreckage of the Chinese balloon and then study it in order to «make the most» of the information it may yield.

As confirmed by National Security Advisor Jake Sulliva, recovering the wreckage of the balloon will take time, but will be beneficial because Washington will be able to «take advantage of what is recovered and learn even more than what has already been learned».

According to Sullivan, U.S. authorities have already investigated the balloon while it was still flying over U.S. territory, according to the U.S. news portal The Hill.

On the other hand, Homeland Security spokesman John Kirby has endorsed Sullivan’s words and stressed «how valuable» it will be to analyze the balloon, as well as the information that can be subtracted from it.

«We believe that the time we had to study this balloon over the course of the past week was already important and will give us much more clarity not only about the capabilities of these balloons, but also about what China is trying to do with them,» Kirby added.

The U.S. Army shot down the Chinese balloon over the South Carolina stuff on Saturday days after it was detected flying over U.S. airspace. The delay in shooting it down has sparked criticism of the Joe Biden administration from Republicans.

For its part, the Government of China confirmed on Friday that the balloon located by U.S. authorities in U.S. airspace was its property, although it qualified its «civilian nature» and its purpose for «scientific research».
