At least three people have died and one is unaccounted for following flooding and landslides caused by heavy rains in the northern New Zealand city of Auckland.
New Zealand Police have confirmed that emergency services went to a house in the northeast of the city that had been hit by a landslide, where they found one person dead on Friday, the RNZ radio station reported.
Earlier, a body was found in a flooded culvert in the Wairau Valley district in the northwest of the town, while another man was found in a nearby parking lot during Friday morning.
One person is still missing after being swept away in the Waikato district of central Auckland.
A day after the authorities of the oceanic country declared a state of emergency in the region, they have decided to postpone it, leading to the partial closure of Auckland Airport and one of the main roads in the region, as reported by ‘NZ Herald’.
Meanwhile, widespread damage has been reported in a multitude of homes, which has raised the number of evacuated residents to hundreds.
