The leader of the Republican Party in the U.S. Senate, John Thune, has advised against an impeachment against the President of the United States, Joe Biden, following the discovery of classified documents in several personal offices.
As Thune explained to the news portal The Hill, it is not advisable for the Capitol to enter into a tit-for-tat situation in every legislature. «There has to be a very good reason,» he said.
Thus, these statements by the Republican leader in the Senate could now calm the spirits of those members of the party, especially in the House of Representatives, who do seek to subject Biden to impeachment.
Thune’s call for calm comes just a day after classified documents were found in the Indiana residence of Donald Trump’s former vice president, Mike Pence.
President Biden has been in the spotlight in recent weeks after several batches of classified documents were found in private quarters. This finding has sparked criticism from Republicans.
Already in the summer, a similar episode occurred around former President Trump. At the end of August, the FBI raided his Mar-a-Lago mansion in Florida to seize dozens of classified documents.
