The South Korean government on Tuesday deported a Chinese national previously detained for skipping isolation and quarantine rules imposed to curb the spread of coronavirus after testing positive for COVID-19 after arriving in the Asian country.
The 41-year-old man has finally been deported a week after his arrest for refusing to stay in quarantine and fleeing after testing positive. «He was brought before the Prosecutor’s Office after the police opened an investigation against him for violating the Infectious Diseases Prevention and Control Act,» the authorities said. «We have released him because the case does not constitute sufficient grounds to keep him in custody and the Immigration Service has taken the action of forcibly deporting him without trial,» they said.
They also warned that there is the possibility of a fine against him and recalled that the violation of the regulations in question can lead to up to one year in prison and a fine of 10 million won (about 8,000 euros). For the time being, the man is banned from entering South Korea for at least one year.
