Republican leader Kevin McCarthy stalled again Thursday and failed to get the votes needed to become speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, a stalemate that repeats after seven rounds of voting.
In this seventh round, even the representative for Florida, Matt Gaetz, has cast a favorable vote for former President Donald Trump, since it is not necessary to be a member of the House to be elected, as reported by NBC.
In previous ballots, 20 Republican representatives have voted in favor of candidate Byron Donald, while Congresswoman Victoria Spartz has decided to abstain, not so in the seventh round. The Democrats, on the other hand, remain united in their decision to have Hakeem Jeffries represent them.
McCarthy is ready to win the presidency and assured Thursday that he does not mind being elected for a short period of time. Meanwhile, North Carolina Rep. Dan Bishop has urged the group to elect Donalds, who would be the first black speaker.
