The Support Group for Islam and Muslims (JNIM), an affiliate of the terrorist organization Al Qaeda in the Sahel, has claimed responsibility for two attacks perpetrated on Monday in a town near the capital of Mali, Bamako, which left at least four people dead.
The group said in a statement published through its propaganda channels that the «simultaneous» attacks were perpetrated by JNIM «mujahideen» against «Malian tyrants».
«If they spread terror against oppressed Muslims and God willing, we will plunge their cities and localities into terror and fear. They will not rest until they return to God and take their hands off the Muslims,» the terrorist group warned.
The attacks were perpetrated on Monday against a tollbooth in Kassela and a fire station in Markakongo, in the Koulikoro region, as reported by local media.
Mali and the rest of the Sahel countries have experienced an upsurge in violence, both jihadist from groups linked to Al Qaeda and the Islamic State, as well as inter-community violence, which has led France and the G5 Sahel countries – Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania and Niger – to step up their operations.
