Iranian authorities on Wednesday released on bail well-known actress Tarané Alidusti, who was arrested in mid-December after supporting the recent wave of protests sparked by the death in custody in September of Mahsa Amini, a young Kurdish woman arrested in Tehran for improperly wearing the veil.
The release has been confirmed by the mother of the actress, who has indicated on her Instagram account that the woman «has been released,» according to information gathered by the Iranian news agency ISNA. The authorities have not yet commented on the case.
In the aftermath, a photograph of the woman has circulated on social networks along with several Iranian artists. An open letter signed by 600 artists was recently published calling for the release of the actress, whose arrest was also condemned by the Cannes Film Festival.
Alidusti, 38, is one of the most internationally known Iranian actresses. She recently posted a photo of herself on Instagram without a veil to express her support for the protests. In 2022, her latest film ‘Leila’s Brothers’ was released, the screening of which was banned by the Iranian Ministry of Culture.
