The President of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, will travel to Brazil on January 1 to attend the inauguration of Luis Inácio Lula da Silva, who won in October in the second round of the presidential election against Jair Bolsonaro, the ultra-right-wing leader.
According to information gathered by the Argentine state news agency, Télam, Fernández will return to Buenos Aires on the same day after participating in the event, in which he could be accompanied by the Argentine Foreign Minister, Santiago Cafiero.
The Argentine president and his entourage will be received in Brasilia by the Argentine ambassador in Brazil, Daniel Scioli. For the moment it has not been confirmed that the former Uruguayan President José Mujica, invited by Fernández to travel with him on the same flight, will travel with him.
The President of Argentina already traveled on October 31 to Sao Paulo (southeast) to congratulate Lula da Silva in person on his victory, a trip in which he emphasized that the leftist leader has the capacity to «re-unite the continent».
