The Greek Coast Guard reported Friday that it has rescued about a hundred migrants whose boat had been shipwrecked off the island of Ceos, in Mediterranean waters.
The Greek authorities have indicated that a total of 97 migrants were rescued alive: 32 men, 22 women and 39 minors. All of them come from Egypt, Afghanistan, Somalia, Syria, Israel and Iraq and have been transferred to the port of the city of Lavrio, east of Athens.
In addition, four Turkish nationals have been arrested and fined 8,000 euros each for alleged human trafficking, according to information reported by the newspaper ‘Kathimerini’. The boat had left the coastal city of Izmir, in western Turkey, and was bound for Italy.
