At least 13 alleged criminals have been killed in recent weeks in the Dominican Republic by the National Police during «direct confrontations» after committing robberies and a possible kidnapping, all of whom were carrying illegal weapons and were on board a vehicle, according to authorities.
The latest case is that of a 23 year old man who lost his life in El Amirante, in the east of the city of Santo Domingo, who was carrying a pistol and was accompanied by two other men who fled after robbing several residents, according to ‘Listín Diario’.
The case of the alleged kidnapping is that of Bello Andino Agomas Mendez (El Menor), who was killed on 28 November by a patrol of the Southern Regional Directorate of the National Police (DRSPN) in Barahona.
He was part of a gang that had gone to the capital to kidnap a businessman and was armed with a rifle.
In nine other cases, the reason for the confrontation with the agents was a robbery, including a 16 year-old adolescent who died while receiving medical assistance at the Francisco Mocoso Puello Hospital after being wounded in a confrontation with agents who were pursuing him for opening fire on another 17 year-old.
