At least two police officers have been killed and another injured after they were attacked by a group of armed civilians in the Mexican city of Valparaiso, in the central state of Zacatecas.
According to preliminary information, the three police officers, one woman and two men, were traveling from the municipal police station of Valparaiso to one of the municipality’s neighborhoods when they were attacked by armed men, reported ‘El Universal’.
State security authorities said that both the woman and one of the men died at the scene, while the wounded officer was taken to a medical center, although his state of health was not yet known.
Following the attack, security forces were deployed and are carrying out investigations in search of the attackers, according to the newspaper.
These two new deaths bring to 51 the number of police officers who have been killed so far this year, of which 47 are municipal and state police officers, plus three members of the National Guard and one military officer.
