The U.S. government on Monday called on Kosovo and Serbia to make concessions and not jeopardize «decades of peace,» all in the wake of the failure of their meeting in Brussels to reach an agreement to resolve the license plate dispute.

«The United States is disappointed that the leaders of Kosovo and Serbia did not reach agreement today with EU High Representative (Josep) Borrell on a solution to the ongoing crisis in Kosovo,» the U.S. State Department said in a statement.

In this regard, the U.S. Administration has urged Kosovar Prime Minister Albin Kurt and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic to work with Borrell to reach «a fair compromise».

«Both Prime Minister Kurti and President Vucic will have to make concessions to ensure that we do not jeopardize decades of hard-won peace in an already fragile region. We join the EU in calling on Kosovo to immediately suspend any planned measures that would increase tensions, including the imposition of fines on vehicles,» the State Department statement wielded.

Still, the U.S. has called on both sides to refrain from taking «provocative actions» and to fulfill their obligations under the EU-facilitated dialogue.
