The U.S. Republican Party has taken control of the House of Representatives, reaching the 218-seat threshold more than a week after the mid-term congressional elections were held.

Specifically, eight days after the midterm elections, the Republicans have obtained the seat they needed to wrest control of the lower house from the Democrats, which will allow them to have the legislative initiative in the country.

With this victory, the Republican caucus – probably led by Congressman Kevin McCarthy – will put an end to Democrat Nancy Pelosi’s second term as Speaker of the House of Representatives, although with a slim majority.

Although polls predicted a comfortable majority for the Republicans in both chambers in view of the fall in Biden’s popularity and the fact that election night began with a landslide victory for Governor Ron DeSantis in Florida, the Democrats have achieved better than expected results, maintaining control of the Senate and not losing as many seats in the House of Representatives.
