Brazil’s president-elect, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, passed several routine examinations this Saturday at the Sírio-Libanês Hospital, in Sao Paulo, which showed complete remission of the throat tumor diagnosed in 2011.

The press office of the medical center confirmed this information, which implies that there are no signs of cancerous cells in Lula da Silva’s body, although he does present inflammatory changes due to the vocal effort involved in the campaign, as reported by the G1 channel.

The doctors have also observed a small leukoplakia in the larynx, which is a white spot or plaque on the mucous membrane of the vocal cords, which is usually benign, according to one of the specialists. However, it will not be necessary for the president-elect to follow any treatment, routine controls are sufficient, and he has been discharged.

Lula da Silva consolidated his victory in the second round of the presidential elections held last October 30, where he won 50.9 percent of the votes, against 49.1 percent obtained by the hitherto Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro. Lula will take office on January 1, 2023.
