The European Union will redouble pressure against Iran and will approve new sanctions on Monday against some 30 individuals and entities in response to a crackdown by the ayatollahs’ regime over the death of young Masha Amini.

According to several sources confirmed to Europa Press, the sanctions will affect some thirty individuals and entities involved in the violent repression of demonstrations in Iran. The measures will come to light on Monday in the framework of the meeting of EU foreign ministers, following the agreement at the level of ambassadors of the EU-27.

This Wednesday, the Vice-President of the European Commission, Valdis Dombrovskis, already advanced in an intervention in the European Parliament that the EU is closely following the protests in Iran and opened the door to more restrictive measures to respond to the repressive spiral of Tehran.

Thus, the EU will extend existing sanctions for human rights violations in Iran to react to the situation unleashed in the country after the death of the 22-year-old woman arrested for allegedly wearing the veil incorrectly.

Amini’s death last September has led to nationwide protests that have been violently repelled by the Iranian authorities. With this new step, the EU will surpass the 100 people included in its ‘blacklist’ for rights violations in Iran.

On sanctions for Iranian military support to Russia in the context of the war, the EU is still gathering information on the alleged shipment of missiles to Moscow and no immediate steps in that direction are expected for the time being.
