The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, has denounced Thursday that Russia is «destroying» Ukraine after having failed to occupy and militarily subdue the neighboring country.
«The Russia of (Vladimir) Putin is destroying Ukraine: they cannot occupy it, they cannot win militarily on the battlefield, they cannot win the war. They are systematically destroying the country. Bombing, destroying civilian infrastructure,» the head of European diplomacy has condemned before the meeting of G-7 foreign ministers gathered in the German city of Munster.
In this regard, Borrell has accused the Russian leader of leaving millions of Ukrainians without light and seeking to make the country spend the winter «in the dark». «This is a war crime. We don’t have to talk about nuclear threats, using conventional weapons they are destroying the country, killing civilians and trying to break the morale of Ukrainians,» he said.
For all these reasons, the High Representative urged to continue to support Kiev in the face of Russian aggression through military and economic means, as well as to help the rest of the world to cope with the consequences of the war.
Facing a Putin who is waiting for «general winter», he asked «more than ever» to help Kiev, assuring that the international community has a «moral duty» to support Ukraine against the aggression ordered by Moscow.
