The man accused of breaking into the home of U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and allegedly assaulting her husband with a hammer has confessed to police that he was on a «suicide mission» and had a list of federal political targets to attack.
David Wayne DePape, 42, told Paul Pelosi while he was at his home that «everyone» had to be «eliminated» after corroborating that Nancy Pelosi was the number two in line of replacement for the Presidency, behind Vice President Kamala Harris, according to ‘The Washington Post’, citing a court document.
In statements to FBI agents, DePape has assured that he acted alone because he was «fed up with the level of lies coming out of Washington D.C.», adding that he entered the House Speaker’s house to have «a little chat».
«I really didn’t want to hurt him, but you know this was a suicide mission. I’m not going to stand here and do nothing, even if it costs me my life… I would do it if I had to,» Paul Pelosi’s attacker has expressed, according to the aforementioned newspaper.
According to the affidavit filed by a federal agent, DePape had already claimed that Nancy Pelosi was the «leader of the pack» of lies in the Democratic Party, and that if he broke her knees «he would have to enter Congress in a wheelchair, which would show other members of Congress that there are consequences to their actions.»
All in all, in addition to the Speaker of the U.S. Congress, Paul Pelosi’s attacker intended to assault «several targets,» including a local professor, several state and federal politicians, as well as family members of those politicians.
David DePape faces charges including attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, as well as attempted kidnapping, the Justice Department has said.
Paul Pelosi, 82, underwent «successful» surgery to repair a skull fracture and serious injuries to his right arm and hands after the assailant, hammer in hand, asked him where his wife was and assaulted him.
Pelosi managed to call the emergency services, who overheard a conversation in the background, after which the Police were dispatched to check what was happening. All this without the attacker having any evidence that there was an open line.
