Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian on Wednesday agreed to address the status of the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region in the future and indefinitely, as proposed by the Russian government within the framework of the talks.

«There has been talk of the existence of a Russian and a non-Russian concept, an attempt to create the impression that the steps taken by the Armenian Government contradict Russia’s words. This is not the case,» he said before qualifying that he previously could not address the issue publicly because of «ethical» issues.

In this regard, he pointed out that «it was the Russians who expressed the idea of delaying the negotiations on the status of Nagorno-Karabakh for an indefinite period of time». «This is explained by the fact that there is currently no objective opportunity to reach a status that would be acceptable to the parties,» he said, referring to Azerbaijan’s demands.

«This situation is not new, to what extent does the position of the Armenian government agree with this position? I must say that it agrees 100%,» the Prime Minister said, according to the Armenpress news agency.

Thus, he explained that the Nagorno-Karabakh issue has three components: security, rights and status. «We have left out the status issue because we agree with Russia that dealing with this issue will inevitably lead to a crisis,» he said.
