At least 98 people have died and 1,812,740 have been affected by the floods caused by heavy rains in the Philippines due to the passage of tropical storm ‘Nalgae’ according to the latest official report, which includes a total of 69 injured and 63 missing.

The Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRMC) has published the new figure, although it would be provisional data since only 58 deaths have been confirmed pending validation of another 40, according to ABS-CBN television.

It has also been reported that 80,000 families have had to be evacuated and moved to 27,109 evacuation centers distributed throughout the country.

Up to 40,319 people have been preventively evacuated in ten regions: Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Cagayan Valley, Bicol, Western, Central and Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao and Davao.

In property damage, 59 towns and cities have been declared in a state of calamity and 16,260 hectares of crops have been affected, of which more than 3,000 hectares have no chance of recovery. There are 24,813 farmers and fishermen who have lost 435 million Philippine pesos (about seven million euros).

Power has been restored in 94 areas in the 11 regions, although a total of 4,188 power installations have been affected, of which almost 700 were completely destroyed.

The Ministry of Social Welfare and Development has already earmarked 5 million pesos (about 86,000 euros) for emergency response, mostly food packages.
