Ukrenergo, the Ukrainian power grid operator, reported Friday that scheduled blackouts will continue in Kiev, the capital, to «stabilize» the power supply in the face of attacks by Russian forces on the country’s infrastructure.
«Power outages will be used for a longer time due to significant damage and lack of stability in the electricity system,» local authorities have indicated in a Telegram message.
Thus, they have made available to the population information about possible power outages and urged residents to consume as little energy as possible. «Turn on appliances one at a time to reduce consumption as much as possible and, if possible, between 6.00 and 11.00 in the morning and between 17.00 and 23.00 at night,» they have indicated. In addition, they have asked businesses, offices and stores to use as little light as possible on the facades of buildings.
Kiev is in a similar situation to other localities such as Chernigov, Cherkasi and Yitomir, all of which have limited electricity supply. On Thursday, the Russian Army carried out several attacks on civilian infrastructure in Kiev, according to reports from Ukrainian forces.
