Iranian Intelligence has accused Friday the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the British secret services (MI6), as well as those of Israel (Mossad) of inciting protests in Iran in the context of the death of young Mahsa Amini.
«The available intelligence documents show that the CIA, in cooperation with allied intelligence services and reactionary representatives, before the start of the riots, used methods (…) to launch a nationwide riot in Iran with the aim of committing crimes against the great nation,» he has specified.
These operations to «lay the groundwork» and «intensify external pressures» against Tehran were allegedly carried out «in close collaboration» with British intelligence, Israeli foreign secret services and Saudi intelligence, as well as those of several other countries.
«There is credible information that the planning and operational execution of most of the riots was carried out by the Mossad service in cooperation with the most powerful terrorist groups,» he stressed in a statement carried by the IRNA news agency.
Tehran has strongly criticized Washington for inciting «public discontent» and instrumentalizing «world events». Thus, he gave the examples of the assassination in 2018 of Yamal Khashogi inside the Saudi Arabian consulate in the city of Istanbul and the death of journalist Shirin Abu Akle, who was shot in the head in May while covering clashes in Jenin (West Bank).
«The US terrorist government, after despairing of confronting the great nation of Iran in military arenas and cruelly and inhumanely sanctioning (the country), has in recent years invested in a malicious network of complicit organizations to network and influence social sectors,» he stressed.
Likewise, major social networks and instant messaging applications – both Meta, owner of Instagram and WhatsApp, and Twitter – have, according to Tehran, violated all international laws during the Iranian unrest by «deliberately» manipulating algorithms as a «strategic weapon».
«Between September 20 and October 20 alone, more than 50,000 new Persian users with fake identities were created on Twitter to work against the Islamic Republic of Iran,» he has stressed, adding that «Twitter has gone out of its way to help magnify and highlight fake news.»
Regarding Instagram, he has expressed that «by arousing the emotions of the Iranian society, especially the youth, Instagram tried to create despair, increase the level of violence and create social division in different layers of the society.»
Iranian Intelligence has also highlighted that there has been a «special emphasis on attributing every killing and incident to law enforcement and security forces,» while accusing Western media of fueling the protests.
