Hundreds of people took to the streets on Friday to condemn Wednesday’s terrorist attack on a Shiite mosque in the southern city of Shiraz, where some 15 people were killed and dozens injured.
The marches were held simultaneously in the main cities, although the largest was in Tehran, the country’s capital, according to Mehr news agency.
These demonstrations also coincide with the protests called for this Friday over the death of young Masha Amini, which have been going on for more than a month.
The attack on the Shiraz mosque, which has been claimed by the Islamic State terrorist organization, took place when the faithful were performing their prayers.
On Thursday, Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi said that protests and unrest over the past 40 days «pave the way for terrorist attacks» like the one on the mosque and noted that the demonstrations encourage violent acts by those who «do not want Iran to prosper.» «Security and peace are necessary to produce knowledge and science,» he pointed out.
