Chinese President Xi Jinping has said his country is willing to work with Washington to find mutual interests and achieve benefits for both administrations, Chinese state television reported Thursday.
«China is willing to work with the United States to respect each other, coexist peacefully and achieve win-win cooperation, and find the right way for China and the US to get along in the new era, which will not only benefit both countries, but also the world,» Xi said in a letter thanking the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations for its work in «actively promoting» the development of bilateral relations.
In this regard, the Chinese leader said that both countries, «as major powers», should «strengthen communication and cooperation» to enhance the increase of «world stability and help promote world peace».
Xi Jinping hopes that the National Committee on US-China Relations will continue to play an active role in returning US-China relations «to the path of healthy and stable development,» the letter continues.
The comments — which come ahead of a possible meeting with US President Joe Biden at the G20 summit — took on a more conciliatory tone following a Communist Party congress in which Xi secured a rule-breaking third term and pledged that China would stand firm in a more hostile world, reports Bloomberg.
