Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has stressed to U.S. President Joe Biden Italy’s commitment to the «transatlantic partnership» in the first telephone conversation between the two leaders since the right-wing leader took office.
As reported by the Italian Palazzo Chigi, Meloni reiterated the importance of the «deep friendship» that unites Italy and the United States, especially «in light of the historic challenges facing Western democracies,» such as the war in Ukraine and the energy and food crisis.
Biden congratulated Meloni on his appointment and expressed his willingness to work cooperatively to «address common challenges,» the White House said in a statement.
Both leaders also stressed their commitment to address «the challenges» posed by China and to ensure «sustainable and affordable energy resources».
