Argentina’s Foreign Ministry has summoned the UK ambassador to the country, Kirsty Hayes, on Thursday to protest against a series of military exercises carried out near the Falkland Islands.

In a statement, the Argentine Foreign Minister, Santiago Cafiero, expressed his «categorical rejection» of the idea of «introducing new military actors» in the Malvinas, a statement which also alluded to the possible presence of soldiers from Kosovo.

Thus, he referred to the information on the sending of Kosovar soldiers in the framework of a «peace support operation in accordance with an agreement signed with the United Kingdom on the incorporation of personnel from the Kosovo Security Forces to its infantry army in the Malvinas».

That is why he has summoned the ambassador to «convey to her the Argentine Government’s profound rejection» and to recall that Malvinas is «an integral part of the Argentine territory illegitimately occupied by the United Kingdom».

He also specified that the Secretary of Malvinas, Guillermo Carmona, has delivered a note of protest to the ambassador to indicate that the British actions are an «unjustified show of force».

In addition, they assure that this implies «deliberate distancing from the calls of numerous resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly and other international forums that urge both Argentina and the United Kingdom to resume negotiations, in order to find a peaceful and definitive solution to the sovereignty dispute involving both countries in the Malvinas question».
