Morocco confirms at the last minute the absence of Mohamed VI at the Arab League summit in Algeria

The King of Morocco, Mohamed VI, will finally not attend on behalf of his country the Arab League summit that starts this Tuesday in Algeria, after weeks of speculation that would not have been clarified until the weekend, already with the Moroccan Foreign Minister, Naser Burita, in Algiers.

The holding of the regional forum has been a constant focus of speculation and led to the fact that, for the first time since the rupture of relations in August 2021, an Algerian minister traveled to Rabat to personally deliver an invitation that Burita, present at the pre-summit meetings, has taken up.

The head of Moroccan diplomacy clarified on Sunday that Mohamed VI will not lead the delegation, according to sources quoted by the magazine ‘Jeune Afrique’. The information is echoed by several Moroccan media, including some such as ‘Le 360’ which are considered close to the Moroccan Royal House.

Burita had claimed in recent days that the intention of Mohamed VI was to participate in the meeting, something that seemed distant given that it has not started and the two neighboring countries have already crossed reproaches on account of alleged misinformation and false news.
