A man has been rushed to hospital after he was shot while allegedly attempting to disarm a security guard at the Russian Embassy in Zimbabwe’s capital, Harare.

The injured man, whose identity is being withheld, is 24 years old and is being admitted to Parirenyatwa Hospital, Zimbabwe’s largest medical center, after emergency services found the victim on the ground after he was shot.

The Embassy has confirmed the attack, noting that the event occurred outside the institution, correcting earlier reports that it had occurred on the diplomatic premises, reports the Zimbabwean newspaper ‘Herald’.

The country’s security forces said investigations to determine the motive for the incident were still ongoing, according to a statement released Thursday.

«The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that investigations are ongoing in relation to the shooting that occurred at the Russian Embassy last night, 26 October 2022 at 19.20 (local time),» the police force said.
