The European Commission has reached an agreement in principle with the five Member States that had imposed unilateral measures to restrict the import of Ukrainian agricultural products, on the grounds that their local producers were being harmed by the measures with which Brussels prioritized Ukraine.
The Vice-President of the European Commission, Valdis Dombrovskis, has announced this agreement with which he hopes, he said, to respond to the concerns of farmers in all the countries involved.
Through this agreement in principle, Dombrovskis said, Poland, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Hungary have committed themselves to withdraw the restrictions imposed unilaterally, while Brussels will implement exceptional measures for wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower and will evaluate whether to decree similar measures for oil.
It has also announced an economic support package of about 100 million euros for affected farmers in the Member States and will work to ensure exports to other countries through solidarity channels.
