Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi was released from the intensive care unit on Sunday, thanks to an improvement in his health, although he will remain in hospital in Milan where he has been for almost two weeks.

»Everything is fine. With a lot of tranquility (…) I hope they finish this work of theirs soon: it means that everything is going well», explained the brother of the leader of Forza Italia, Paolo Berlusconi, who confirmed Silvio’s release from the ICU, during a visit to the hospital, reports the newspaper ‘Corriere della Sera’.

As for the health conditions of the former head of the Italian Government, the doctors mention a »further constant improvement in the respiratory and renal function», since he is hospitalized for a pneumonia caused as a complication of the chronic myelomonocytic leukemia he has been suffering from for a long time.

Berlusconi, 86 years old and prime minister on three occasions –1994-1995, 2001-2006 and 2008-2011–, has been hospitalized since April 5. The conservative leader had already spent several days in the same center the previous week.

His party colleague and foreign minister, Antonio Tajani, said Wednesday that Berlusconi is evolving favorably and even expressed confidence in the senator’s attendance at a large Forza Italia event scheduled for May 5 and 6 in Milan.
