At least 35 people have died from dengue fever in Argentina, an all-time seasonal record, which has cost the lives of at least two more people in Buenos Aires, according to the latest update of the Epidemiological Bulletin of the National Ministry of Health.

National estimates put the number of deaths at 27, above the previous maximum of 2020 (26), but the newspaper ‘Clarín’ recalls that the data are outdated and that the sum of the estimates provided by the country’s local authorities results in 35 deaths: 10 in Salta, 9 in Tucumán, 5 in Santa Fe, 4 in Jujuy, 2 in Córdoba, 1 in the province of Buenos Aires, 1 in Santiago del Estero and 1 in Entre Ríos, plus the two deaths in the capital.

They are two men, one 76 years old and the other 73 years old, in both cases with previous pathologies. The first died at the Zubizarreta hospital, after spending 48 hours in the critical care unit with multiorgan failure, and the second confirmed case is that of a 73-year-old man who lived in the neighborhood of Palermo and had arterial hypertension and obesity as risk factors.

The latest weekly epidemiological report from the Argentine Ministry of Health indicates that 41,257 cases of dengue fever have already been reported in Argentina for the 2022-2023 season between August 31 last year and April 9.
