At least 11 people have been killed and 21 wounded on Friday after a Russian shelling in the Donetsk city of Sloviansk, the spokeswoman for the State Emergency Service of this region, Veronika Bajal, has reported on her Telegram account.

»The number of victims of the shelling of Sloviansk has risen to 11 people,» Bajal said, updating previous estimates that included among the dead a two-year-old boy in this town, 45 kilometers from Bajmut, one of the current epicenters of the war.

Authorities later confirmed that there were five missing persons being sought under the rubble. The State Emergency Service has indicated that »under the rubble there are still five people whose identities have already been established».

In addition, we have no information about the residents of three more apartments,» said State Emergency Service spokesman Vadim Liaj, according to UNIAN news agency.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has condemned the attack. »The occupants have brutally shelled the city (…). The evil state has once again demonstrated what its essence is. Killing people in broad daylight and destroying every living thing,» he reproached.

According to preliminary data, S-300 missiles were used. Five high-rise buildings, five private houses, a store, a business center, a recreation club and three cars were damaged,» reported the head of the Ukrainian regional military administration Pavlo Kirilenko, UNIAN news agency reported.

Sloviansk suffered a series of Russian shelling of civilian infrastructure the day before.

One of the shells hit a schoolyard, according to Ukrainian regional authorities, Ukrinform news agency reported.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces reported on Saturday that in the last 24 hours they have repelled more than 50 Russian attacks, mainly in the localities of Liman, Bajmut, Avdiivka and Marinka, in the Donetsk region. They have also launched up to thirteen missiles at Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.

Besides, the Ukrainian Army has denounced that the Russian military are «looting» the occupied areas in the south of the region and have shelled electric transformers to cause blackouts in the Kherson oblast.
