The Russian and Ukrainian authorities have confirmed a new exchange of prisoners in the framework of the war, under which each side will recover about a hundred servicemen captured by enemy troops.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, some 106 servicemen who were in »mortal danger» under Ukrainian captivity will return to the territory of the Russian Federation on planes chartered by the Kremlin.

»All those released are provided with the necessary medical and psychological assistance,» the Russian military authorities have detailed, as reported by the TASS news agency.

For his part, the head of the Ukrainian Presidential Office, Andrii Yermak, also confirmed the operation on his official Telegram profile, where he also specified that those released had fought mainly in Mariupol.

»Some people have been seriously injured and have diseases. We will do everything necessary for each of them to receive all necessary assistance,» Yermak remarked.

The prisoner exchange is one of the few agreements reached between Russia and Ukraine since the outbreak of the war in late February 2022, when Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion of his neighboring country.

Moscow and Kiev have already carried out several prisoner exchanges, although these have not been without controversy either, as both sides accuse each other of hindering the process or not complying with the agreed figures.
