The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on Thursday sent a plane carrying 38 tons of urgent medical and food supplies to »help the hundreds of Afghan families affected by the recent earthquakes in the northeastern part of the country».

The delivery of these supplies is part of the UAE’s ongoing efforts to provide for countries affected by natural disasters and to improve humanitarian support for vulnerable groups such as women, children and the elderly,» the ministry said in a statement.

The earthquake occurred on March 21 and had a magnitude of 6.8, affecting Pakistan, India and Afghanistan. In the latter it left at least three dead and 44 injured.

The UAE’s humanitarian efforts for Afghanistan from 2021-2022 have included the launch of a relief airlift of 28 aircraft with 623 tons of medical and food supplies, benefiting approximately 1.1 million people, including 850,000 women and children.

They also helped mitigate the impact of the earthquake that struck the city of Jost in southeastern Afghanistan in June last year, where they built a 1,000-square-meter field hospital that includes 75 beds and receives 200 patients daily.

In addition, the UAE sent medical supplies and specialized equipment to treat injuries caused by natural disasters.
