North Korea on Friday passed a new law on the protection of state secrets in an apparent effort to tighten internal discipline in the country, North Korea’s KCNA reported.

«The agenda of the plenary meeting included such matters as the adoption of North Korea’s laws on the protection of state secrets,» read a statement released by the country’s legislature.

The aim of the law on «state secret protection» is to help ensure national security and the development of «socialist construction» through the establishment of system and order, according to the said agency.

The plenary meeting of the Standing Committee of the Supreme People’s Assembly (SPA), held in Pyongyang the previous day, also adopted other laws on the management of the country’s railroads and prodigy education.

South Korea’s Unification Ministry said the move reflects North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s efforts to «strengthen its overall social order,» Yonhap news agency reported.
