At least seven people have died and five more have been seriously injured at the El Venadito bar in the town of Jerez, in the central Mexican state of Zacatecas.
A group of armed individuals fired shortly after midnight at the front of the bar and then burst inside and opened fire on all those present, including the staff and musicians playing.
The gunmen fled the scene, where civilians and relatives of the victims arrived minutes later to transport them in private vehicles to health centers.
Three of the victims were workers at the venue and another was a Telesecundaria teacher. The remaining victims were musicians and customers of the bar.
Neither the Zacatecas Attorney General’s Office nor the state Public Security Secretariat have commented on this incident at this time.
Also on the night of Friday to Saturday, two people were killed in an attack by hired killers in Guadalupe, on the outskirts of the city of Zacatecas. Among the victims is an agent of the State Preventive Police, José Alberto Ibarra Acevedo, 38 years of age.
Eight other people were shot to death in different events between Friday and Saturday morning in the municipalities of Fresnillo, Guadalupe and Calera. In total, 17 people were shot dead in the state of Zacatecas in less than 24 hours.
