The European Commission has published this Friday the green and digital transition support plan for the chemical industry with more than 150 actions to be implemented, as a roadmap for investments in safe and sustainable products, and which has been elaborated together with key representatives of the sector, Member States, NGOs and other stakeholders.

The outlined actions, to be implemented by the entire ecosystem, aim to foster collaboration in innovation, information gathering to support feedstock diversification and improve clean energy supply through electrification, hydrogen production or waste reuse.

The Commission will present the roadmap at the High Level Chemical Industry Roundtable on February 1, after which stakeholders will work together to jointly implement the agreed measures, further assess investment needs and present their commitments for the transition.

Brussels proposed to develop transition pathways in different ecosystems in the May 2021 Industrial Strategy Update as part of efforts to accelerate the green and digital transformation of European industry.

To date, the EU Executive has developed, together with stakeholders, transition pathways in the ecosystems of tourism, energy-intensive industries and the social and proximity economy.
