Teachers in Scotland have taken to the streets on Monday at the start of three weeks of strike action called to demand better pay in the sector in the face of rising inflation and prices in the UK.
The strikes, which will cover 16 working days, will last until February 6, although each of the actions will involve teachers from different municipalities, according to information from the television channel Sky News.
In total, teachers in 32 Scottish counties will be able to take part in them, although this Monday the protests are concentrated in the city of Glasgow, where all schools remain closed, as well as in the county of East Lothian.
Teachers have repeatedly rejected the authorities’ proposal to raise salaries by 5 percent. However, teachers are demanding an increase of at least 10 percent.
At the end of November 2022, almost all schools in Scotland were closed because of a general strike, the first nationwide since the 1980s.
