
A total of 220 towns have been declared in an emergency situation by the Civil Defense of the state of Minas Gerais, in southern Brazil, due to heavy rains.
In addition, regional authorities have reported that 21 people have died since September 21 in rain-related incidents, while 2,015 people were left homeless and 11,256 had to be evacuated, reports news agency Agencia Basil.
Last Friday, the Piumhi River overflowed its banks in the Capitol region and has caused road closures. The municipal coordination of Civil Defense has assured that all the affected houses have already been visited and the water supply has been cut off.
The weather forecast warns of further rainfall and temperatures remain above 30 degrees Celsius.
