Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov assured Monday that sending Western tanks to Ukraine, following announcements by France, the United States and Germany, «will not change» the course of the war.
After being asked whether such supplies may have an impact on the situation in Ukraine, Peskov said that these measures «are not capable of interrupting the process of achieving the objectives of the Russian special military operation», the term by which Moscow calls the Russian invasion launched on February 24, 2022 under President Vladimir Putin’s mandate.
«It hardly makes sense to talk only about the French decision, we know that the collective Europe, the North Atlantic Alliance and the United States have already pumped tens of billions of dollars into Ukraine by supplying arms,» the spokesman criticized.
To this, Peskov added that these supplies cause «pain to the Ukrainian people» and prolong «their suffering,» Interfax news agency reported.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced last week «the first delivery» of French-made light tanks. This announcement has been joined by US President Joe Biden and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, promising armored personnel carriers.
Subsequently, Poland has indicated that it wants to join these countries in forming a broad coalition to export modern tanks to Kiev.
