Former Russian President and current Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said Friday that Ukrainian authorities «have rejected the hand of Christian compassion» by opposing Russian President Vladimir Putin’s announcement of a 36-hour ceasefire on the occasion of Orthodox Christmas.

«The hand of Christian compassion was extended to Ukrainians. Their leaders have rejected it. I think that the majority of military personnel participating in the special military operation have breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing the refusal of the leading Ukrainian clowns for a ceasefire,» Medvedev has said.

Thus, he explained that this decision means «less trouble and trickery», although he said that «it is a pity for the people who have lost the opportunity to go to church». «However, pigs have neither faith nor an innate sense of gratitude,» he noted in a message on his Telegram account.

«They only understand brute force and stridently demand food from owners. That is what their training is based on and that will continue at the hands of Western herds of pigs,» said the former Russian president, who also criticized that other Western countries have criticized Putin’s announcement.

Critics include Lithuanian Defense Minister Arvydas Anusauskas, who said Putin’s order derives from the fact that «the killers are tired and want to rest for a day.» «They want a truce for Christmas so they can continue killing Ukrainians in their country with new forces,» he denounced via a message on his Twitter account.

For his part, Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski has accused Putin of using the truce announced by the Kremlin on the occasion of Orthodox Christmas as a military strategy. «They want to use Christmas as a cover to stop, at least briefly, the advance of our men in the Donbas and bring equipment, ammunition and mobilized men closer to our positions,» he has reproached.

Putin ordered on Thursday that a 36-hour cease-fire be established on the occasion of Orthodox Christmas, after Patriarch Kirill, the highest representative of this Church, requested it. In this line, he asked Kiev to also declare a cease-fire during this period.
