The Russian government said Monday that a peace treaty dialogue with Japan is impossible because of the «anti-Russian course» of the Japanese authorities.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko said that «it is absolutely obvious that it is impossible to discuss the signing of such a document with a state that adopts openly hostile positions,» according to statements to the Tass news agency.
Rudenko added that the Japanese government is directing «direct threats» against Moscow, while he finds no signs that «Tokyo is moving away from the anti-Russian course or any attempt to rectify the situation.»
«With the launch of a special military operation in Ukraine – as Russia calls the war on Ukrainian soil – the Administration (of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio) Kishida actively joined the Western-led Russophobic campaign,» the official explained.
He also considered that Kishida «carried out a complete dismantling of the results of mutually beneficial cooperation accumulated over many years».
The Russian deputy foreign minister highlighted the increase in Japan’s defense spending, saying that «the abandonment of peaceful development» by the Asian country is «a serious challenge to the security of Russia and the Asia-Pacific region as a whole.
«We draw attention to the accelerated implementation by the Kishida Administration of the course to abandon the so-called peaceful development of the country, which has been declared for many decades, and switch to the rails of forced militarization,» he has criticized.
«We warn that if this practice continues, we will be forced to take appropriate response measures to block military threats to Russia,» he has warned.
