Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dimitro Kuleba on Thursday called the latest missile and drone attacks by Russia «senseless barbarism» and stressed that «pretending to be neutral is tantamount to siding» with Moscow in the context of the invasion, unleashed on February 24 on the orders of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
«Senseless barbarism. These are the only words that come to mind when watching Russia launch another wave of missile attacks on peaceful Ukrainian cities ahead of the New Year,» Kuleba has said on his account on the social network Twitter. «There can be no neutralizing in the face of these mass war crimes,» he has stated.
Oleksi Gromov, ‘number two’ of the Operational Department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said that Russian forces fired 69 missiles at Ukrainian territory on Thursday, 54 of which were destroyed by air defense systems, Ukrinform Ukrainian news agency reported.
«The enemy has launched cruise missiles by air and sea, as well as S-300 and S-400 anti-aircraft guided missiles against energy and critical infrastructure facilities in the eastern, central, western and southern regions,» it said.
Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko has confirmed that at least three people, including a fourteen-year-old girl, have been injured in the capital as a result of these attacks. «They are all hospitalized,» he noted in a brief message on his Telegram account.
Hours earlier, Oleksiy Arestovich, advisor to the Ukrainian Presidency, had indicated that the Russian Army had fired «more than a hundred missiles in multiple waves», while Mikhail Podoliak, also an advisor to the Presidency, raised to «more than 120» the missiles launched by Moscow and outlined that the aim is to «destroy critical infrastructure and kill civilians en masse».
