The Peruvian Congress has suspended parliamentarian Pasión Dávila, of the Peru Libre Party, for 120 days after he punched parliamentarian Juan Burgos in the back during the first plenary session following the dismissal of former president Pedro Castillo.
«With 62 votes in favor, the plenary of Congress has approved the proposal to suspend Mr. Pasión Dávila from his position and deduct his salary for a period of 120 days of the legislature,» the legislative chamber said in a statement.
Last December 11, Pasión Dávila physically assaulted Congressman Juan Burgos, from Avanza País, during a session of the plenary of Congress. The Peruvian congressman approached Burgos’ seat to hit him in the head from behind. After that, he ran away and Burgos chased him, until he was stopped by other congressmen.
«Before the cowardly attack of the terrorist congressman Pasión Dávila and those who surround him, only seek chaos and anarchy, scaring marches in the streets and defending a corrupt and dictator like Pedro Castillo,» Burgos wrote at the time on his Twitter account.
After the events, the Avanza País congressman denounced Dávila before the Ethics Commission for the physical aggression and requested that he be suspended for 120 days.
