The former president of Peru, Pedro Castillo, has denounced that the U.S. ambassador in Lima, Lisa Kenna, went to the Government Palace on Tuesday to «give the order» to the Peruvian president, Dina Boluarte, to take the troops to the streets.

The former president, who has been remanded in custody for 18 months for his role in the current political and social crisis in the Andean nation, has warned of the alleged facts in a handwritten letter published on his official Twitter profile.

In the letter, Castillo insists that Kenna’s visit «was not free», but served for the US diplomatic representative to order the military to take to the streets to «massacre» the Peruvian people.

«The Peruvian press will not only remain silent about this, but will deny it just like that,» Castillo concluded his letter, alluding to the collusion between the media and the new government. The former president denounced this week an alleged subsidy of 1,800 million soles –more than 442 million euros– to the press.

Kenna visited the Government Palace on Tuesday and met with President Boluarte, to whom he reiterated Washington’s support to «the democratic institutionality in Peru», as well as to the measures that the Peruvian Government may take to «stabilize the social situation», according to the Andean Presidency.
