Denmark’s former prime minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen will serve as foreign minister in the new three-party coalition led by Social Democrat Mette Frederiksen, according to the official cabinet list published Thursday.
Rasmussen, leader of the Moderates and who has headed the government in two separate terms, returns to the executive as a key supporter of Frederiksen. The coalition also includes the liberal Venstre party, headed by Jakob Ellemann-Jensen, who will take over defense and serve as deputy prime minister.
The Social Democrats will hold eleven portfolios, compared to seven for the Liberals and five for the Moderates. By gender, it will continue to be an Executive made up mainly of men, since only eight of its members are women, according to local media.
Until now, Frederiksen headed a minority government formed only by his party, but together with his partners he will have a solid parliamentary majority in the Parliament formed after the legislative elections of November 1.
