The protests in support of former president Pedro Castillo, which have broken out in different parts of Peru in recent days, could cause economic losses of around 1,728 million soles per day if they continue, according to the president of the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL), Rosa Bueno.

In an interview with the program ‘Andina al día’, she specified that, of the total, 552 million would correspond to commerce, while 14 would be from the tourism sector, since the ten regions most affected by the protests contribute 49 percent of the GDP, according to the Andina news agency.

This same Wednesday, a group of Peruvian protesters have clashed with the Peruvian Police after piercing the walls of the Alejandro Velasco Astete airport in Cusco and entering its facilities, which remain closed until tomorrow.

Dozens of people have managed to pierce the airport walls and set fire to a grassland near the runway, although they were later removed by Peruvian police officers with tear gas, as reported by RPP.

Peruvian President Dina Boluarte has again called for dialogue. «We have more than 200 police officers attacked,» she said, adding that «peace» and «calm» are necessary, according to the network.
